Mt. Lebanon Recycling Revisions – 1/27/2019

Along with the sixteen other communities included in the South Hills Council of Governments (SHACOG), Mt. Lebanon implemented new recycling rules beginning January 1st, 2019.

These rules were imposed by the regional Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs) and recycling haulers in response to a narrowing market for recyclable materials. The haulers may begin fining municipalities for contamination beginning 1/1/2020 so it is very important that we all recycle correctly to avoid fines. If fines build, we are concerned that recycling will become too expensive for regional municipalities and will no longer be offered. This has occurred in Northern PA.
